The third week of January is over — and at least temporarily the longest government shutdown in U.S. history! Here are a few highlights from women of color you may have missed this week:

Kamala Harris announced on MLK Day that she’s entering the 2020 race for president. We can all breathe a sigh of relief for the future. (starts planning the first debate watch party … )

Tracee Ellis Ross co-hosted the 2019 Oscar nominations where Regina King (Best Supporting Actress, If Beale Street Could Talk), Ruth E. Carter (Best Costume Design, Black Panther), and SZA (Best Original Song, All the Stars) all picked up nominations.

Speaking of trophies, lets head over on the tennis courts where Naomi Osaka defeated Petra Kvitova to win the 2019 Australian Open. This is Osaka’s second Grand Slam after her controversial win at the U.S. Open last year against Serena Williams.

Meanwhile, are Beyoncé and Rihanna going to be stealing all our coins this year with new music projects? Guess we’ll have to wait to find out….
